Possible longbow from poor wood?

Why is it a waste if you get a working bow out of it? There is no shortage of sinew in the world and how do you learn without actually trying?
I think it's a waste of wood trying to achieve a design that is on the edge before you start.
Sinew will make this 'potential' bow not as close to the edge before he starts.
He said the grain was good so what is the ppoint in using drywall tape, silk etc. These backing would be there to protect against dodgy grain, the sinew would actually allow a longer draw without overstraining the wood so much.

I agree with Mike.  This is a great place to practice sinewing; not on the Turkish or Hungarian core you spent months getting right; but on a simple flatbow.

Ayup.  She Who Must Be Obeyed sez she loves me dearly, but we ain't getting married; and she told me not to give up my floating man cave.  So Man Cave the boat has become.

I'm no bowyer, but for the effort you're going to put in, I can't see the sense in starting with poor materials.  As the saying goes, no matter how fine you grind it, you can't make wheat from chaff.
