Empty space

Ok just built my first glass laminated recurve. On glue up I saw something I didn't catch before ... At the end of the riser there is empty space were it didn't fit together perfect about 1/8" at the very end of the fadeout between laminations how big of a problem will this be and is there anyway to correct this now that smooth on has cured? Or am I just screwed

Is your gap 1/8" long, or wide? Where is the gap compared to laminations (ie, belly glass, lam, gap, lam, lam, back glass?) What is the style of bow and poundage? Does the gap go from one side of the bow to the other? Both ends of the riser, or just the top or bottom?

It's not good, but depending on your answers it might not be too bad.

Long and wide completely through on the belly side gaps goes all the way from left to right 50-55 pound on just one end of riser not both sides it is a gap between riser and lam

Lay it on its side, with the bottom of the gap taped so the glue can't run out, and fill it up with thin viscocity cyanoacrylite(super glue). Let it dry/shrink, and repeat until it's full. Sand. Seal. Shoot.

1/8" gap is pretty big. Good luck.

Superglue isn't flexible in any thickness. Fine in hairline cracks because the glueline is necessarily thin but for filling a gap an epoxy would be better. If you mix some up and then heat very gently it will start to flow like water. Pour it in and let it cure. Depending on what exactly this gap is like you could also fill any dead space with a slither of wood then glue.

Warming the epoxy is key, otherwise you end up with bubbles/voids. In fact, you may want to leave the tape off the other side until you get some flow through the void and don't trap any air bubbles. Good luck.

I love this place  - never a dull moment! Reading through a topic and trying to visualize a bow problem and then what appears to be a random pic from Norway. I actually spent a few minutes trying to find the hidden clue to the bow gap issue. LOL

I know you already filled the gap, but I have a suggestion for filling small gaps. Some time ago I asked a doctor friend for a few syringes that were past their expiry date. After the suspicious look, I told her that I can use them for squirting glue into joints to repair furniture. ( and to blow up worms for fishing     )
The curved plastic syringes they use for irrigating cuts work as well and you'll have an easier time getting them, but the small needles get into tiny gaps better.

TB 111 won't fill gaps at all...and it shrinks as it dries because it has a lot of water in it....I recommended an epoxy for a reason!!!
