Been working on a couple bows
« on: December 08, 2014, 10:24:00 PM »
My advisor from when I was in graduate school at WVU   recently told me his son had a renewed interest in archery and he asked me if I would build him a bow.  Of course I said yes.

And I figured while I was at it, I'd build myself one too since I didn't get a shot with the the bow I was using this past season.  I figured if it doesn't have any luck in it, it's time for a new bow    ;)

I put the final touches on my advisor's son's bow tonight.  It has black glass, bubinga riser and overlays, and I hit my mark of 40# at 28".  I hope it will make a good Christmas for him.

The finish was still a little tacky on the bow I built for myself, so I'll get pics of that one up in a day or two.  It's the same design as this one, but different woods and glass.

I really hate this time of year.  Get's dark to dang early to get good outside pics.  So you all will just need to look at my kitchen floor for now.

Great looking bow!  Love the way bubinga looks; it's beautiful wood.
It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

SWEET!!  :bigsmyl:

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

I shot it a little bit tonight before I packed it up for delivery. (You know, I just had to make sure it wouldn't blow up  ;)  )  It seemed pretty speedy considering the arrows I was shooting out of it were overspined and about 12 gpp.  It should zip pretty good with arrows down in the 8 - 10 gpp range.

The bow I built for myself is taking forever for the finish to dry on it.  I'm hoping to have it all dressed up by the weekend so I can play.
