The allure of a all wood bow and my first harvest
« on: December 19, 2014, 12:13:00 AM »
with a hickory back hickory "HBH" board bow I just finished making. I have been tinkering with making a few all wood bows over the last few years. I haven't had much time to put into it but I finally made one that's a shooter. It shoots where I look with the quite whisper only a all wood bow and arrow combo could only have. I think I could get into them a lot. There are already more bows being planned in the near future. I have been shooting it for about a month and it has been an absolute pleasure to shoot. It tuned up easy and the arrows fly with authority. I was fortunate to get a chance yesterday on a late season doe and was able to take some winter meat home.

I have this posted on the Pow Wow but I know not everyone on the bench visits it. I wanted to post it here because this is where it started for me.
Its a HBH board bow 66" NTN 50 @ 28". I trapped the limbs 1/8" tapered to the tips. I kept it simple with a true oil finish. I could have done a nicer job on the handle but I was having too much fun shooting it. This bow shoots well for me. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Way to go!  It is amazing how quiet a well tillered wooden bow with the right arrows shoots.  Nice job on the bow and your harvest.
It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

That's awesome. I'm still looking for my first harvest bigger than a squirrel with a bow 100% of my own making. But that hasn't stopped me from planning more bows either.

Congrats!
