Northern Illinois for Oasge?
« on: December 23, 2014, 07:13:00 PM »
TG selfbow builders,

I'm from the Madison, WI area looking to acquire osage close(er) to home to either help harvest or purchase.  Thinking I might save some $$$ less shipping distance?  Any of you with osage to sell, I am happy to talk and perhaps workout a system to forgo/reduce freight costs, etc.  I have quality Pignut hickory for trade as well, if that interests anyone.

As aside:

Illinoisans...what is the furthest north in IL have you seen osage growing?  I've  heard of some growing in Wisconsin but I think one would be hard pressed to find trees one could harvest for bow wood?

Other than that...what is the least expensive resource for purchase of quality osage staves?

Thanks -

Kris

Thanks P. Drums,

I have some friends down that way, I'll start sniffing around for osage in the Land of Lincoln.

Bring some of that hickory down to Mojam in July and hang out and swap for some osage. You'll have a good time too...
