Now with the 2 form pcs on the bench, we make sure we have 1 1/8" max all along the form. Then I put a strip of ply on both ends to hold in place...

And check square across centerline, and put a pc on there also to keep top and bottom form centerline lined up...

Only one place on this form bout 8" on one end where I got wide from line. Probably should try to stay right on line and have help to catch the form coming out of bandsaw! This form ran the same all the way after cutting top and bottom apart, some will require trimming no matter how careful you cut...

Here is only spot that needed trim. BTW-- the top form that the airhose is against doesn't have to be sanded smooth.

Now to make room for the riser, I lay something in the gap slightly thinner than the form so I can put the riser up against the bottom of form and mark the top...

With the riser pattern in place, mark the 1 1/8" around the riser template...

Cut to the line and you have your riser area done..

Stay sharp, Kenny.

Now to the hardware(which I robbed off a form that had one bow made on it!!)I like to leave a little room from end of riser so I can see what is happening there when gluing up. Then space the other set out as you like.

I draw a centerline for bolt holes and drill the 1/2" hole about 1/2" deep so I can stick a bolt in it while I drill the other 2. Then start the other  2 - 3/8" holes about 1/4" deep. Then drilled a pilot hole in all holes with a 1/4" bit and a 1.5" square steel block I had drilled  for TD limbs with a press.

Then drill all the 3/8" holes , put the straps on with 3/8" bolts in to be sure and get proper bolt spacing. This keeps your form gap right. Now drill the 1/2" holes.

Make some spacers to keep the straps off the form, these are 5/16" thick but it isn't critical.

Put all the straps on and stand form up to assemble the other side with spacers and straps...

Take off the temporary plywood pcs at ends and she is ready. I have to go to town and get wax before I can lay up the first bow, but I have the riser 75% ready and lams and glass ready to go! Will glue her up tomorrow and work on it more next Friday!!

Another mistake, but will still work is I usually put the straps on so the straps stay on top piece. Just handier to put plastic on form.....

Kenny, thank you from all of us for the time and effort you take in posting these buildalongs and photo's. You just save us many hours with this form build. Oh and thank you for the longbow plan's you posted. That is a very kind gesture.

Nope, out of the biz, but will gladly share it if I can talk Ben(or someone) into doing it again if it turns a decent bow!!

Nah, just closed the biz til I have more time to do it. I never sold bows after the first few requests back in the early 90s! Built a few for family and buddies...

You're welcome Willem! Have fun with it, archery is a good addiction!  :D

Glued up this morning, be done cooking in an hour, but with cooling down and back to work, probably won't work on it til next weekend....

Glueup was easier than I expected with the big deflex in handle area, not bad at all! The riser looks a bit little to hold  # but guess every bow is that way in the grip area!

Here is what held me up on progress yesterday, then the store held me up for it! $7.48 for that!!

Here finishing up the riser, had to use the corner of my backer block because of the shape of it, worked quite well!!

Looks little and fragile, huh??
Think it will hold a 50# bow?

Then I cut the lams to length and blew off the dust, glued the mess together and put it on the form. The deep deflex went together better that I was expecting. I just used some scrap plywood to hold all on the form before I inflated the hose.

I cut back on glue, when Chad Holm was here hunting, he looked at a bow I am helping a bud build and commented I use LOTS of glue....   :biglaugh:   So I cut back a bit!!

I promise to clean up my mess of a shop soon!

Oh, it is an awood riser, it was handy and if it works will get camo painted anyway. I hate black glass but didn't wanna use any of my clear til I know it will make a decent bow. Didn't want to take time to glue one up anyway.

The bow I hunted with this year is camo painted and worked great!   :D

Natural aboo lams full length. Kind of tricky on the superlam without making a new long sled, but worked out OK....

Black .040 uls glass

Smooth-on epoxy
