Spent yesterday after noon cleaning out my little work shop. Shopvacked everything I could, opened all the windows and door and blew it out with a leaf blower. put an exhaust fan in one of the windows to suck out any fine dust hanging around. That zircote isnt likeing me at all. No major rash or anything but It makes my face and neck itch like crazy. Only thing I found that gives me any relief is. preparation H. So I guess it's official, I'm a butt head!

Too funny Randy.

Started pulling together wood for my risers yesterday (expecting laminations to show up this week.) Daughter Unit #2 (DU2) was hanging out in the shop with me and became obsessed with a fresh cut piece of yellar wood. I don't have much, and so it doesn't get used too much in my shop. But she was fascinated with the bright yellow color. She was a little bummed when I showed her what it looks after some time, but still wants to make her new riser with osage laminations and toss the one we already glued up with cocobolo. Hmmm...

Is that from the Osage I gave you? I'll be very interested to see how it turns out. I haven't used any of it yet. You going to cut it edge grain? Or are you going to be able to get some flat grain lams out of it?

No, this is from some old, weathered, twisted, and checked billets someone sent me. They were past my skill level at one time (they probably still are) so I cut one of them up to make riser lams. This was one of the pieces still left.

I haven't touched those boards you gave me yet, but I keep looking at 'em to come up with my game plan. After visiting ole Roybert, I kinda wanna get a sander and then mess with 'em. Not sure that's in the budget anytime soon though.

Guess what!? Mr. Breeding sent me a present that showed up today. My boards from page 4:

were turned into beautiful lams:

I hope I have enough to make weight on ******'s bow. Heck, I hope he likes walnut and/or cherry!

Looks like this weekend is go time.

Man, there's some great progress so far.  I feel like a slacker this year.  I've got a few stitches left on a knife sheath, and two other bows to get out the door before I can start, but seeing some of ya'lls work has got me thinking about the trade bow.  I'm in the same boat as Bob though.  I sure would like to do something with some figured cherry that I have but I want some nice clear glass first.  I'm also building a small vacuum chamber for dying wood for risers, so maybe I can work something in using that?  Maybe some more research is in order . . .

I'm sure it got there for the start Roy, it just didn't have the stamina to make it to the finish line...

Here are a few options to start. Ash stave aged two years and a very old English style bow blank that will be backed with bamboo.

Going to start with the ash and attempt to create a takedown flatbow. Probably keep it about 2 inches wide and toast the belly.

Got some time to work today.  Got the snot cleaned off.  Had a little slippage hopefully I'll be ok.  Going with a solid titanium/manganese/stainless riser for these 357 pound foam core limbs.
