Satin I say. Also, a bit heavy or a bit light is no big deal ... 5# either way isn't much really.

I always use satin on my bows as it looks really good and I hunt with my bows.

Either, but satin would make it nicer for hunting.  Love the beaver tail handle too!

With any luck I'll have overlays blended smooth and handle shaped.  Maybe even get to final sanding today.  It's raining quite hard right now, so I'll probably hold off on the finish for a drier day to keep from "blooming".  Actually, the rain looks kind of pretty right now.  :)

Sweet looking bow crittergetter, the gloss is sharp but I'd probably use satin top coat since I hunt. The wood combo is striking, great job!

I like gloss. I like to put a bit of wax on during hunting season to kill the shine and polish it off at the end of the season.

As for weight, I can live with anything that shoots smooth. The idea was for a bow for my wife or guests, but I'm happy to shoot it if it's a little heavier.

Well, I was pretty happy with my recipient's bow today before I went and messed it up (deserves its own thread.) Plan B bow might be a bit on the heavy side too. Plan C is to start from scratch. Uhg, that deadline suddenly seems really close!!!

This is the first bow I have made in 2 years so I am making one and a backup also because this is a new riser design for me. I am sure hoping the clear glass limbs make weight because it is all the clear glass I have. I am also making a second bow with a slightly thicker stack and black glass as I type this just to make sure I get this bow done before I move out to Texas next week.

Wow some nice bows coming together! A little too heavy would work for me and I like a satin finish on a bow I'm going to use in the woods!!

Went from this

to this

Made some good headway this weekend. The side profile is refined, planning on backing with deer rawhide this week and going for the finish. She stands 77" tall (TTT) right now but will be made into a 68" to 72" bow.

Holey smokes what bow would you not take with a line up like this. I think I would want gloss if it was me because after I got done showing that thing off It all would be rubbed off and I would reapply later.

A bit heavy or light who cares.

A self bow take down now we are talking. I am really behind the power curve. I hope to scrap a bit this evening.

i agree with kelly... a bit heavy or light does not matter... at the end, this is not a contest or we are all not the customers who are eager to meet requirements..

so my side, everything is ok. satin coated or not, heavier or lighter...

we are sharing the JOY of creating.

Randy the wood is ash, first try with this wood for me. It has a few knots on the belly that may dissapear but I'm planning on backing it with deer rawhide to give myself more assurance of making this into a bow instead of firewood.

another two great looking bows, sure some high quality bows coming through, not the least of the terrific D/r longbow and brilliant knife I received from Willem in S.A
