BBI Bomb Waiting to Go Off?
« on: January 30, 2015, 12:56:00 AM »
Hey there everyone!  I am building a 62in BBI reflex Longbow.

I got the short string on it and its to about 15 inches and bending pretty uniformly.

However now that I am scraping the limbs  I noticed this little gem!

Is it a deal breaker?  No big deal? Options?

I have noticed that as I tiller and scrape that it migrates. Right to left on the above pic.  I am hoping that it disappears completely as I think it is quite shallow. BUT who knows... Here are some pics of the sides of that same section.

and the bow so far.

Can we see some full draw and braced pics, before I make a judgement call.

Personally I would not scrape that area at all. I think you're best bet is to leave that spot stiff and ask for a bit more out of the rest of the limb.

Id suggest being very, very cautious. It appears to go through to the back and clear across, my opinion is "yes" it is a time bomb.

Sorry to hear it, but that's the right attitude.  Did it break at that iffy spot?
Good luck on your next one.
It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

Yep. It went right at the knot.  I gave my boards a real close inspection after wiping them down with acetone to look for more knots and swirls. I think I can get one or two perfectly clean ones for the next round. After my ego heals I will be posting more pics!

thanks guys.

I didn't even realize it was friday the 13th. I should have known better.
