Been sinewing a splice on my Manchu bow I made out of a Mongolian-should end up in the neighborhood of 100#@36".  Still have to smooth the sinew, wrap with cherry bark and make some nocks.  I don't have any horn to hand so I'll probably splice in some kind of hardwood.  Still need some birch bark to finish it up.

Yesterday was the customer appreciation 3D shoot and feed at Wildhorse Creek Bows. Mike Dunnaway and his wife Susan put this on every year for folks who have bought bows from him. Good food and a great time had by all.

Sorry to hear about your toe bigbob2.Hope it heals up OK.

It's been a good day today. Watched Mr. turkey go into the sauna, dug some Jerusalem artichokes out of the garden to go with Mr. turkey tonight, then I glued up a longbow and started tillering one that I replaced the messed up belly lams on last night. It looks like it may be a shooter, but it's too heavy to become my swap bow.
Now all that's left is to get cleaned up and wait for family that's coming over for dinner.
Happy Easter All!
Dave.

Got my hands on a 18" mesquite log that is about 5 ' long. Going to make some nice bow veneers and possibly a few risers.

Went fishing.  Hadn't done it in years, since I got sick, but it was nice to cast a line, even if I did get skunked.  Reminded me of my grandfather, who passed in December.  I think he enjoyed it too.

Said goodbye to an old friend today. My lab of 15 yrs. she was a great hunter and companion. Especially to my youngest daughter for the last 10 yrs. she took it harder than any of us.

Got a new job handed to me by the voters. We already  take care of all the bridges in the county and now also have 550 miles of gravel road to maintain and rock plus all culvert work...

So if you don't hear much from me for a bit, don't check the PO walls, I'll be around....
Stay sharp, Kenny.

It's better to be busy, than to be bored .... Until you're busy all the time ...
That's good though Kenny, congrats on the new contract!

Update on the oak board pyramid;

Long story short; she broke!  :(

But, no bow is without it's lessons and for this one I'll say that my attempt to glue the riser block down to the limb was a failure.

You may recall that I discovered that the riser block was not adequately glued to the limb.  Photos are earlier in this thread.  I attempted to patch it with super glue and an overlay of automotive fiberglass and epoxy.  here is what it looked like after that repair.

No problems during tillering nor in shooting in at a short draw.  Several days ago I let about ten arrows go at full draw with no problems.  Today I put it on the scale and it drew 36# at 28".

Decided to run it over the chrono with a 525 grain arrow.  The first shot went across at 139.6 fps.  On the second shot it broke!  :scared:

So, here it is after the break.  It  might be repairable, but I'm not going to risk it since the bow was going to go to a grandson.  Time to start hunting for a new board.

Here is how it broke.

Bummer Mike.
I have in my possession a very nice oak board stave that's extremely dense, very wide ringed. Doesn't make much sense to spend money to ship a $6 board though ....

Monterey,

Sorry about the bow.  But the lessons learned should be not to narrow the handle like that.  Also don't cut in a shelf like that.  You have to make sure you have enough wood left to keep the handle rigid.  You don't and that's why it popped the glue on riser and cracked where it did.  The grain looks kinda questionable in that area too but it might be a photo issue.  Better luck on the next one.
Take a kid hunting!

Ben, thanks for the thought.  I'll make the rounds tomorrow.  Have four of the big box home improvement stores nearby so chances are good.

John, grain was pretty good.  That bad glue joint between the walnut and the oak seemed to initiate the break.  Grandson will be disappointed
