Boiled up a full pan of my favorite black giriko and worked on quieting the knee of my right brace. Still down with some kind of adjustment issue, gonna see the doc if it won't heal. Tracking a blade I commissioned, waiting on it to cross the Pacific. Just a holding pattern generally.

Tonight I shot bows with Mark Chronister (grouse11). Mark is actually a seasonal employee where I work for the US Fish & Wildlife Service and I happen to be his supervisor. He's also an aspiring bowyer and although he hasn't built an entire bow yet, he has made a couple ILF risers which turned out very nice. I told him that if he can build an ILF riser, he'll have no problem building limbs or a one-piece bow.

Anyway I got to shoot his ILF and it was very smooth. He also brought along a short recurve Turx Turning built for him and that is a cool little bow. Totally different from what I'm use to shooting, but fun. And Trux's craftsmanship was as excellent on that bow as on the one he made for me during the swap a couple years back. So Mark got to shoot another bow from Trux.

Good time and Mark and I will be shooting together more often. (He also shot better than me).

Yes, I have seen the pic and it was a bruiser.

And Mark was really impressed with the speed out of the bow you made for me.

I glued up a ILF recurve limb at 4 pm, its in the oven baking. I went with Santos Rosewood veneers back and belly. I'll get the other limb glued up tomorrow afternoon.. I found a nice roast in my freezer from a doe I got in Ohio last year, it will be part of our dinner tonight or tomorrow. Getting more Steroid shots in my lipoma tumor tomorrow, Doc thinks it will shrink it..sure hope so, hunting season starts in 11 days and i havnt shot a bow in 2 weeks.

Good luck Bob. I hope they do the trick and you're back to full speed quickly. Would love to see what those limbs look like when they're ready to have their picture taken.

Got more steroid shots today.. I pulled a limb out of the ILF form , prepped form and glued up #2 limb.. took #1 limb over to the edge sander and cleaned the excess glue off of the edges. Pulled belly tape off just to get a peek..the back veneers are flatter cut and have more black/ brown to them.

I just finished building this set of ILF limbs. specs are 54# on a 15" VPA riser, Santos Rosewood wedges and veneers, amberboo tapers, black and red phenolic tip overlays..

Tonight I got my broadheads sharpened up for opening day in a couple weeks. A couple swipes on a strop was all it took. (It's easy sharpening when you never got a shot at anything last season).

Starting to reduce the limbs on an all hickory poor man's horn bow. Belly is toasted, rawhide is soaking. Give it a week and I should have a bow.

Got back from moose hunting this morning. We did the 22 hour drive in 19 hours. 3 trucks with trailers, and 7 guys. We saw plenty of moose and eagles and a couple of adult wolves.
My partner and I had a 40 minute stare down with a 60 inch bull that caught us in the open, but wouldn't come closer than about 45 to 50 yards.
Another buddy of mine had two cows and a calf in front of him, but we had no cow tags and the dumb a$$e$ who make the rules put calves out of bounds for archers this year.
Another buddy got this year's trophy for the best miss.
We did have a great time though!
My re-set button has been pushed and I'm ready to go back to work tomorrow. Of course I'll have to explain to those non hunters that we were after non suicidal creatures and not shopping for meat.

Finished a 58" D/R and shot it a bit. My arrows aren't spined high enough for it tho.
