Where can I get some bamboo like that? I've been thinking about buying some more. I'm running a bit low.

Yesterday I started making my first set of lams. I got the big drum sander last April. I got the board of yew a couple of months ago. But this year has been crazy and so it's taken until now to get started. I never even made a test run in all that time! First up was trying to rip accurate lams on the bandsaw. Check. Tonight I plan to run them through the sander. Tomorrow I hope to splice all of the lams and prep the riser blocks. With any luck I can glue up two bows on Saturday and get them cut out and rough tillered on Sunday.

One bow is for my Dad's 70th birthday next month and the other is the belated bow for the swap. Since they are both almost identical, I'm hoping I can knock out both in almost the same time as it takes me to do one. (Setup is always so much of the time.) Luckily for my poor swap recipient, my wife thinks the bow for my dad is worthy of priority in the house. Because of travel, I only have two weekends to get it done. I want to spray both at the same time so I only have to clean the shop and gun once. Therefore my recipient's bow should be shipped right behind my dad's. Wish him luck!

Looking good my friend!

Clear glass or black for the bows? That yew looks nice as far as I can see.

Green back, clear belly. Riser on top of the lams.

I bought a block of figured myrtle for the risers, but after cutting it open last night and seeing behind the wax I'm not sure it's myrtle. At least I've never seen red myrtle before. Grain is about right though, so maybe?

Yup. Someone told me it is likely English yew. Don't know what difference that really makes. Little samples seem to perform well in the flex test. Very tight-ringed and dense.

Second from right. Overall board was 8ft long (1-3/4" thick). Lots of clean 3' long sections in it. A little swirl in the grain, but not bad. Not selfbow stuff, but I think it's going to make some sweet lams.

That yew looks like it could make some nice bamboo backed bows Dave. It does look pretty clean.
