RW I bet you could find a place. Maybe a sign company. If they don't do it I bet they could connect you to one. I have a plastics place near my work.

Hey Rockkiller, you better be watching. I think this thread was your idea!

Nice job, Norbert. This is a big help for some of us! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks. I plan to do some more profile sanding on one of the risers and glue them up on Saturday. Not sure I will get to making the bows for a while. Been thinking about making these two for some old buddies on the East Coast as a surprise and to get them into archery.

I like to do these in two steps. I never could get comfortable cutting out the flare on both sides and not worry about breaking it or getting everything lined up without sliding.

I read an interview with Bill Howland of Brackenberry Bows where he said he no longer cooks his risers. He said that the differential shrinkage of different woods and laminations is what caused slippage problems. Made sense to me....I use the California Sunshine.

Didn't get to glue up the second half but got them cut.

I still can't tell which one I am going to like better...

I need to get me some fancy templates/patterns like those! I made a simple arc, in a matching set, by hand that took forever and a day! I also use the double sided tape with good results.

What's nice about it is that the simple curve doesn't need any adjustment for thickness of the accent lines. Compound curves such as yours will limit your accent thickness to the width of the gap between the matching templates.

Yeah, that is the complication. I took me a while to recognize that. Some guys use the washer trick where you put a pencil in the hole and roll it along the edge of one side to get an exact thickness along the entire length.

Ok picture this...

Lay down a ruler, draw a line and keep the ruler in place. Put a washer up against the edge of the ruler. Stick a pencil tip in the inside hole of the washer and draw a line as you roll the washer along the ruler.  The distance (thickness) between the ruler line and the washer line will be the same thickness (i.e. the width of the washer) the whole length. Picture doing that up against your limb template or a riser highlight line template...
