Traditional magazines I should get?
« on: March 04, 2008, 11:51:00 PM »
Another newbie question:  Are their traditional bowhunting magazines or publications that are particularly good?  I want to learn as much as I can...mainly so I can converse with your experts.    ;)   Thanks!

Traditional Bowhunting Magazine, Traditional Bowyer's Journal, and Primitive Archer are a couple!

TBM is a great magazine.  The best quality I have ever subscribed to over the years.  I can't speak for the other two magazines.  The only thing I hate is the wait.  It comes every other month.  If you are inclined to "do it yourself" projects, there has been something for me almost every month.  Can't say enough good.

TBM is great, was better 10 years ago though.   :)  ( I have read it since 1989)

TBJ ( the few copies I have seen) is a good read.

PBS is IMO, better than the rest due to it's lack of advertising on every page.

Have fun reading!

For a newbie, Traditional Bowhunter Magazine is definitely a must read. The other magazines mentioned, while good, are more specialized. In my opinion TBM is still the best trad mag available today.

What Whip said; TBM, TBJ, PA, & PBS
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

I leafed through a Primitive Archer today...didn't look like my cup of tea.  I did subscribe to Traditional Bow Hunter...looks right up my alley.  Thanks, all.  BTW: anyone know if they've ever done any reviews on the JD Berry bows in TBH or any other publications.  I'd like to buy some back issues if so.

Pick up a copy of Traditional Bowhunters Handbook by T.J. Conrads, or Timeless Bowhunting by Roy Marlow.  Will increase your learning curve substantially.
