Any old Bear Takedown experts here?
« on: February 07, 2015, 03:44:00 PM »
I have a Bear Victor Viking C handle takedown I bought new in about 1972. The finish has some hair line cracks in it and there are a couple of shallow nicks I want to get out. I would like to take the metal latches down to bare metal and spray them a satin black. I would like to remove the latches to make it easier to sand and paint them and to sand and paint the wood riser.

Does anyone know how these metal latches are attached to the riser? The only screw I see is the screw for the limb alignment. There are two like rubber plugs on the deep end of the latches, I am wondering if there are screws under them? Or are these latches epoxied in?

Well I just got an email from John Rafferty at the bow hospital. He advised me the latch rides on a dove tail and it is epoxied in. So much for it coming off...

Aw...   :)
It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.
