Mounting AMS reel
«
on:

Does anyone use one of those trad adapters to mount a AMS reel onto a recurve or longbow? I want to put a AMS reel on a Bear grizzly and my sons longbow, his I want to go with the adapter but I'm kind of in the middle of the road on what to do with mine. Do those adapters work good or am I better off with inserts?

Never tried the adapter. I used the inserts, clean looking but they are permanant and some people can't bring themselves to drill holes in their bow.

I tried mounting one on an old 76er. I could not get it to mount up very good. I then put in on a PSE Coyote and it works great.

I use an adaptor on my Howatt Hunter. Never had a problem with it.

I use the adapter on my Bingham kit longbow...works great!!! Pull those straps nice and snug, you'll be fine.

I think it works the best to have the inserts in the bow.
But if you don't want to drill holes in your bow the adapter works great.

I used the adaptor last summer and it worked well. My only gripe is that it holds the reel out from the riser a bit more than I liked and thus I had to reach out with my finger more to engage the lever to reel in. Plus, depending on your bow the rubber straps can impede your sight window. This fall I put the brass inserts in that 3 Rivers sells and it's much more comfortable to use now

Dale, If the trigger for the retriever is too far away take acouple pliers or vise-grips and bend the bottom part towards the bow a little. You can also put a small piece of pvc tubing on the trigger for an extension.
