Thankful for my daughter in law
« on: March 05, 2008, 02:32:00 PM »
Daughter in law contacted me and asked if I was still going to take my grandaughter (she's 3) hunting during turkey season. I told her that was the plan and then she asked if I was concerned that we probably (99.9%) wouldn't get a turkey. I told her that getting a bird had nothing to do with why I was taking her to the woods and explained what these early trips are really about. I am glad that my daughter in law encourages me spending these times with my granddaughter Emily. We have been working for several months and Emily can do a mean yelp on Grandpa's slate call. Come on April 12th!

That's awesome!  I would love to see her face when one gobbles back at you two.

Get the following items:
Blind
2 collapsable chairs
blanket to keep her warm in the early AM
thermos for hot chocolate
a couple of decoys

For kids this works so good. They stay comfortable, they can nap early, they can figit, and you can still get a gobbler in to 10 yards.

All kids and grandkids need to be in the hunting woods by the time they show any interest.  Had my son in deer stand with me when he was three.
Good goin' Granpa!  My the Great Spirit watch over ya'll and grant you a safe and enjoyable hunt!

Thats awesome, glad to hear they let you be a good part of her life.

My three year old is getting all geared up for his first turkey hunt.  Borrowed a pop up from papa, getting him more used to keeping quiet/still.  Loves playing with the push button call I have.  I told him already we don't get a bird each time and he seems to think "thats ok, means more time in the woods."

Pass it on.

Happy Hunting!
