UPDATE forward handle DONE
« on: May 16, 2015, 02:47:00 PM »

I really disliked this bow's strung profile. So I decided to shorten it up a bit but would be waaay heavy. So it sat in the corner for awhile, and yesterday while I was cleaning up in the shop, I decided I needed some fresh sawdust.

So I made a jig to hold her vertical in the bandsaw and marked along the parallel on belly(side away from glass)with a pen. Clamped her to the jig and sawed it in 2 lengthwise. Had to use a wedge to help steady it since the limb was tapered.

The bandsaw takes out .065 kerf and I thought that should make a difference. Plus I wanted to shorten it up a bit to see if the profile improves. Otherwise it would just sit in the corner.

That would be admitting defeat, right? LOL

The jig and the belly glass and parallel clamped back on...

Clamped up 2nd limb

The new glue line, will probably be obvious til I paint it camo....

Stay sharp, Kenny.

Way to go Kenny!
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Ah heck Robert, it wasn't much good the way it was.

Here at 62"...

Here is what 58" looks like...

And 28" draw...

Now how about this, look at this string angle, then check weights at 27" , 28" and 29"

String angle don't mean she aint stackin...

And the worst glue line...

And would you believe 1/16" positive tiller at fades? I still gotta work on the rest of limbs a bit.

What do you think on the full draw, should I work the fades a bit more to let it bend there just a little more?

Just noticed this, that string, wherever it came from, has the nock about 2" higher than it should be!!

Somehow the full draw shot gives me the impression it will really fling an arrow.

I think I'd work the fades just a little bit more out of curiosity but that's just me. It still looks good like it is but you never know until you try it      looks like it'll fling an arrow

It should be a screamer at 28" the way it is- how does it shoot?

I think I want it to work at the fades a bit more too. I've only shot it 3 times, but it was pretty quick and quiet for having the nock point so high...

At 62"

At 58" first go...

And after narrowing at fades to let them work a bit more...

It is quick and quiet but I still ain't sure I like it. It came in at 52@28" and shoots OK  but I'm not sold on how it looks...

Thanks guys. It has .003 total taper and I used the Superlam wit hthe builtin tip wedges and power lams. I like it a lot better than when it was 62".....

Looks good to me.  How does she behave?  I bet it is pretty quiet.
