I've got a problem
« on: September 24, 2015, 12:39:00 PM »
While I was out in Eastern Oregon mule deer hunting I dinged the edge of my Montana Longbow on a sharp rock and now I have a splinter of glass about an inch long starting to come up off the back of the bow. To save the hunt I duct taped the splinter down so it couldn't continue to get worse in the short term. Is there a way I can repair this without worrying that my bow is going to have a major failure?

Got access to sand paper? Don't pull on it at all but you will need to sand it out.

I wasn't sure if just sanding it out and finishing would suffice, or if I should try and epoxy the sliver back down, and then sand it out.

If it is real thin then sanding it away would be ok, then  super glue and sand.

If it is thicker likea 1/32 I woud use super glue then sand and seal again with super glue.

A more expensive option is buy some smooth on epoxy and use itthe same as super glue.

I sanded it out with some 320 and the finished with poly spar varnish. Looks like it should be fine

Was planning on shooting it today, but managed to run the end of my right thumb into the bandsaw this afternoon so shooting will have to wait a few days. Just glad it was a narrow kerf metal cutting blade! didn't quite get to the bone!

Man-O-man! I hear of more injuries on band saws than anything else! Hope it wasn't serious. Be careful.
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!
