Making Laminations

I'm am new to making bows, and I am interested in one day making my own lams.  So where do you find stock to cut out laminations from a piece of wood stock?

For example, would the dimensional lumber from somewhere like Woodcraft be adequate for cutting out laminations?  They sell a variety of wood types and I know they carry common bow woods like maple and ash, etc.

Yes. It should work in bows with fiberglass front and back. I went shopping for lam material the last two weekends and came home with wood each time... quartersawn and plainsawn hickory and figured cherry mostly. There are a couple more stores I want to check in the next week or two.

You can find nice boards for lams in local sawmills also. Or if you're not in too big a hurry to let it dry, you can cut your own from trees.

You can get hard rock maple boards from just about any good lumber yard.

I have picked up some beautiful curly maple at Lowe's and HD.  they have no special respect for pretty wood, sells for the same price regardless.  I've found it harder to find a good piece of wood for a board bow.

Ask around and find someone with a sawmill. You will have more options.

Check with commercial cabinet shops in your area. Some great deals on small amounts of lumber can be found there.
