How would you fix/repair this?
« on: December 28, 2015, 09:15:00 PM »
Got this 1970's era grizzly the other day, obviously the previous owner had a sight or something attached to the riser. Wonder how you guys would fix, seal or repair this? I was thinking drilling out and doweling? Wood epoxy puddy? Smooth on epoxy?

Thoughts??

Thanks

I would probably find another colour matched piece of wood make a dowel from it and drill out the riser so that the dowel fitted. Most glues will work to stick the dowel in. Superglue, epoxy etc.
Just make sure the dowel is very dry before putting it in. Microwave or oven on gently will do it.

If all you want to do is fill it? Just use a quality super glue. It will dry and suck down in, just add more. Then sand it flush. If you are concerned about appearance? Go with Mike's suggestion. Either will work .

Here's some options for you- do as above with a dowel, fill with super glue, install some quiver mounts or fill with colored epoxy.

The bottom hole looks like it has a metal insert or bushing in it.
