This is my second try at this pattern sander.
I first had it mounted to 3/4" plywood, the rub collar was epoxyed to the frame of the sander.
The sanding belt would creep down and rub on the collar, it got hot enough it melted the epoxy.  The plywood warped also,and the shaft wanted to slip in the drill chuck. I have 3 flat on the shaft now.

I think I will have better luck this time.

 

The robo  sander works good but I can get more grit size's for this

Interesting that you used the sanding unit from a ridgid sander Mark. Ralph Morris helped modify my ridgid sander  so it doesn't occilate anymore and it works great as a pattern sander. Heres a    Sander build a long

I tried to make mine not oscillate and smoked the motor, so I went to plan B and now plan C.
I saw your build a long when it came out , good job

I canibalized my oscillating spindle sander after I went through 3 motors and adapted the parts to my drill press.

Then I began, mentally, to adapt it, without changing drum size, to a Robosander and haven't figured it out yet.

But Mark, that simple little curved piece of metal you have bolted to your table instead of Robo's wheel and bearing, is a very good alternative, and I may work off of that. Thank you.

Yesterday I dropped a bunch of giant old dead oaks at the archery range. Boom! Kinda fun being out there in the stillness with the snow all around and letting one of those monsters crash to the forest floor. A bit sad too, but gotta keep the range safe.

Today I introduced a young man to traditional archery and he loved it. I enjoyed shooting along with him as he got the hang of it. He did well. I expect to see more of him.

Today my friend dropped a Corolla off at the neighbor's house for me to surprise DU1 with on her birthday tomorrow. After I got back from the range, I went up to wash the salt off it from its trip down. Unfortunately with another ridiculous school delayed start, I likely won't be home when she wakes up and finds it.

Today I went down to the shop and started laying out what I'm gonna do for my swap bow. I think I might make a two piece. Need to try something new each year, and I've been wanting to make a two piece longbow for me for awhile. Figure best to practice on this poor bloke first though!

Today I've also been cleaning the house in preparation for my wife coming home. I pick her up at the airport later this evening. My standards are a bit lower than hers, but yesterday would have been a good day to clean up even on my standards. But then I'd have to redo today, so we let it slide one more day and now it's starting to get to me.

Today our snow has been melting like crazy. Our 26" has been reduced to somewhere between 8" and bare spots and everything is a muddy frickin' mess! My thermometer climbed close to 70 degrees at one point.

I had a lazy day today. I twisted up a string for my niece's bow since the one on it is a spare for a hunting bow of mine. Then I did some carving on a panel I'm doing for a buddy who's getting married soon.
Nice quiet day for a change.

After my "day" job I spray finished a longbow with Krystal Gloss..just cut up 1/2 of a backstrap marinated it with Korean Bulgogi BBQ sause..its cooking now, gonna cook a sweet potato and make a Ceasear Salad..

This drill Press was made in 1975, in Taiwan.
I bought it in 1989 and it set in the corner never to get used, until I started bow making.

 

It has 12 speeds. I never know what speed I am on


 

So I bought this RPM thing from *ba* for 13.00
You put reflective tape that comes with it and start changing speeds
 

so I drew all 12 scenario on my CAD and printed it off
The first speed I checked is where I have been running my robo sander 1474 rpm and that is 1192 feet per minute.
Now I know what RPM I am going, also I Have my feet per minute.

Almost have a new bow ready for glue up. Going to try a dry run tomorrow and if everything is set it will be in the hot box by the afternoon cooking away.
