Sprayed some finish on the phenolic/bocote riser. Trying a new one this time. Was in parts store and noticed matte clear coat for wheels. Seems to be drying great on bocote without the shine of regular clearcoat. When I grow up I'm tryin buffalo hide.. .  :D

Tropical Storm Colin changed my afternoon bow building plans.. I was visiting my Dad in the Hospital and got a call that a tree was down and across the dirt road at my sisters house...Ya great, I'm the "go to guy" now that my dad is 80 and my brother in law suddenly passing 5 weeks ago..It was a Cherry tree but rotten in places and full of big Monkey vine. Well I have a good little Sthil 180 saw and used my Sisters Kubota tractor..of course it was raining..by the time I was done I was in 3-4 inches of water. I was all by myself, I used to do this kind of chore with my "healthy dad" and brother in law(RIP). I'm glad I got to spend time with them when we were all "young fellas"

I've been working on a pair of ASLs.  These were going to be constructed from lams ground myself but they were not good enough.  I put an order in to Troy and received excellent lams.  Can't say enough good about them.

But I took an extra long weekend to fish.  As usual, the grandkids out did me.   :)

I've been gluing layers of glass onto my friends 1970? Bear C riser the last week, it had delamed and cracked a few years ago. ..Today I put it on my belt and spindle sanders and got it rough shaped..

Nice Robert.  What did you spray it with? I have a C riser too which I'd like to refinish.

Roy I will use either T-bird or Krystal CV. I still have to sand the riser down to the wood and drill a hole For the stab bushing..pretty sure I will have trouble sanding the coin..I think I may need to remove it and use a solvent to clean it or??? I am going to research this before I work on it. This is a repair not a restoration..

I've been told not to use a solvent on the riser as it may cause delamination. I don't know what Bear sprayed those bows with, but it took me a long time to sand it off a pair of limbs. I'd imagine sanding the riser is going to be a chore..

Roy, I will pull the coin off the riser and clean the coin with some kind of solvent, no solvent on the riser.. I will use a mouse sander with 120 got paper to sand riser down then hand sand with 220 grit In the spots the mouse sander cannot reach.

Today was fun. Spent 2 hours in the dentist chair getting a root canal. Ya know things aren't good when a professional with a microscope is having a bad day.
