Had a good day, sat in the AC in a mini excavator and thought about bows while I listened to classic rock. Laid 6 road culverts too....
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Talked to my buddy today and he said I covered just a small fraction of his property and that there's more hophornbeam on the remainder of his ground. Can't wait to check it out.

Drove by this tree at MoJam, a storm came by the day before.
Went back and got two pieces
Walnut  22" long 14" O.D.
It will make some risers

I envy you guys who live close to all those fine woods.  We have some ash around here but it's hard to get in suburbia.

One potential wood is serviceberry If I can find some that is legal to cut.

It was 9 hours from my house.
That's why I went back to get it

Awesome! Looks really dark in those photos. Looks like a crotch that could have good figuring.

I saw that photo before reading and thought 'that's not selfbow wood, what is he thinking!?' that's riser wood for sure, nice haul.

Sitting in the airport I just started chuckling and couldn't stop when I saw the post asking if a reinforced riser is necessary for a carbon socket takedown. Wish he'd asked that a week or two ago!

Not all today but I've been doing some work to this ol bow I picked up. Took off the paint. Filled a couple holes. Gave it a more satin/rough finish. Added a little breakup color to the back. I think it is a decent looking bow.

Thanks Roy.

I'm trying to figure out what type of wood this is.
The photos didn't capture the color very well.
The color is sorta in between the reddish pics and the tanish pics.
Maybe bubinga, shedua, Pau Ferro (Bolivian Rosewood)...?

Any guesses?

Leaving Thursday for the Pa UBP annual campout and 3D shoot for 4 days. Graduated from 29 # up to my bear takedown @ 35 pounds. Maybe by October I'll put the 42 # limbs on for bow season.

Good news Roy!

Will the 42# be legal to hunt?

So if you can get your 35# limbs to your usual 21" draw, you're halfway there!

Glad your healing up man! Don't rush it tho!

Not shedua, I don't think it's bubinga ... I would guess either Pau Ferro or Brazilian rosewood. The dark stripes and the curly figure make me lean towards Brazilian.
