I'm fired up..

I have a stash of materials ready to go..

They tell me there is some amazing figure in these rare, imported hardwood planks.

I just need to have patience..  I read somewhere on the internet to "follow the grain"..

Might work out...

Got to stripping word off cherry stave tonight. Will decrown the stave tomorrow and get it ready for backing with rawhide and tillering.

I am thinking of doing something a bit different for this year. How does a glass laminated selfbow style sound? I.E. clear glass, lams and riser cut from the same wood, and horn or antler tips. What do y'all think?

Fwiw, whoever got my name, I'm not picky. Mine doesn't have to be a self bow. I just thought something other than glass would be cool. Build whatever your comfortable with!

Thanks in advance to my builder. Please remember to mark package as gift when you eventually ship.

I'm still in planning stage for my recipient.

I just finished ordering some goodies from Big Jim for my swap bow. Now back to planning the bow. What looks good with osage in a riser and as a core in a tri-lam?
I saw some punky spruce at work yesterday...    ;)

Got 4 staves ready to floor tiller, 1 osage, 1 hackberry, 1 hophornbeam, and an elm.  I'm leaning toward the hackberry, it has about 4 inches of natural reflex.  Thinking about heating in some deflex and adding sinew to help hold the deflex.  Never used much sinew though so we'll see.

Laid out some of my materials today, trying to put my plan together.

I think I'm gonna do a 2-pc for my recipient. I've been wanting one for awhile, but it's probably best I try it out on some sucker first...

Going to try the fiberglass sleeve method. I think I'm going to make my first attempt with just a mocked up riser out of crap wood. Then move to a real bow after working through the bugs.

Got mine ready for limb tip overlays and the short string this morning.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

since we (me) have long time i start with ash tree this year. i know it is very strong wood and can make a good bow... this will be self bow.

any tips would be nice if you have experience with it.

it this does not work out, i will use maple.  :D

roy: what is wrong with a glass backing? i did it before and works perfect...

best.
these are not the droids you are looking for.
