« on: March 10, 2016, 02:49:00 AM »

I finally got round to decorating one of my hornbows. This is coverd with kangaroo hide, I used all natural pigments, copal varnish and 24 carat gold gilding.

Beautiful work, Mike; stunning.  I don't recognize the culture/profile though.

Nice work and it shows your skill and patience.

Beautiful bow, love that profile.  What are the specs and what kind of horn did you use?

Thanks guys.
There is quite some work in that bow.... ;)
KenH - It's a design that I came up with myself. It's loosely based on the Holmguaard bows principles.
Sporthunter - No afraid not, there would have to be an awful lot of photos!
Rainman - It's about 50# @ 28. It's a five piece core. Hornbeam grip, maple sals and black locust outer limbs. The horn is water buffalo and there is about 100 grammes of red deer leg sinew in it. The glues I used are sinew/hide and yellow croaker. The covering is kangaroo leather and all glues, materials etc are all natural.

It's awesome, Mike.  How long have you worked on it? How many hours hands on would you say?

I see it now, Mike.  The Holmegaard folk would be green with envy!

The Holmegaard and Mollegabet are my two favorite "flatbow" shapes.

When you sinewed this, did the sinew carry all the out to the tips?  How would you sinew a Mollegabet, with it's much more definitive shoulder at the lever ends>

Ken - I let the sinew feather out once past the end of the working limb. I guess I would do the same on a sinewed wood version.
Slowbowjoe - Many thanks, that is very kind.
