Hey all.
Where do you buy your wood for risers? Online or from a lumberyard?

I have been kicking that same thing around in my mind and have looked at a lot of online sellers. But, what is an unknown is what is the MC of their offerings.
I've decided to stick with bowyer supply houses since they know what we want and need. I would also buy local when I can see and touch it before buying.

Check out Belle Forest Products. I think you will like what you see.

Pearl, can one trust the MC and quality from Belle?
They certainly have a wide variety.
BTW, thanks again for the Ipe. I ran it through the thickness sander to even it up and it is looking very good.

MC, I cant answer that. But they do offer pics of both sides of all their boards. I bought some PH and GA from them and they looked exactly as the pics portrayed them. Plus, the prices are fantastic.

Maybe I should take a chance. I'm shopping for a riser block right now.

That's what I bought mine for, an I-beam. Ive never made one, but to my eyes it seems fine, worked fine in the tools, and the glue lines are all tight. I did have the boards in low MC for 6-8 months before I used them.

I have purchase quite a bit of riser wood from Gilmer. You can shop by species and they do a good job of keeping their site updated. The piece you see in the picture is the piece you get. Good service and timely shipping. The only draw back with them is that they require a minimum of $100 order before they ship. So if you're just looking for one piece its not so good. They have a huge selection so be prepared to spend some time browsing for the perfect piece. If you've never been to their site, once you get there, go to "boards and blanks" then click on "by species" and then just pick a species that you're interested in.

I have had 100% success with ready to use riser blocks buying from vendors who sell "bow wood". There are TradGang sponsors that sell bow wood and likely have what you are looking for. I have not bought wood from Gilmer or Belle so I can't comment on them but their names always come up on these threads. I have to drive about 75 miles to buy exotic lumber, when I go I am looking for enough for 10 or more risers. I always take a pinless moisture meter with me to check MC.
