Two piece take-down success!
« on: April 04, 2016, 12:23:00 AM »
Building a two piece take-down has been on my wish list of accomplishments for a number of years now. And I finally took the plunge. I watched Big Jims build along videos numerous times and purchased my supplies from him as well.

I am excited with the results. I still have a good amount of finish sanding and then applying the spray finish but here are some pics.

62" mild d/r. 63# @ 28". I plan on dropping a little weight when I trap the limbs and final sanding. Red elm core wood and Shedua veneers - the riser is Iron wood and hickory with some paduak accents.

It looks like you did it well; great job.

Big Jim makes it look easy on his video, but I think that I know better  ;)

Excellent; gotta love 2 piece bows.  I broke my first build by Bracing it to high.  That bow did break my heart and I have broke a few bows in my time     :(

It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

Nice work. I recently bought supplies to make a two piece as well. If mine comes out half as good as yours, I'll be happy.    :)

Thanks guys...it is fun to share our work with one another here! My wife is also very grateful that I have this place to share. I think she gets a little tired of me bringing in my bow at each stage and updating her on my progress...    :D    So thanks for your input and encouragement! And my wife thanks you as well...

Nice work. If you take your time, they are very easy and incredibly strong. Don't make the mistake and leave out the riser reinforcement and you will have a very reliable td bow.
The first few might be slow, but I would expect all the systems would be that way until you get used to them.
Once you get the hang of it, I doubt there is a faster system to install. Or one where the materials are cheaper.

BigJim,

Just one more time, this time in public -- I wanted to thank you for taking the time to post your videos on how to make a two piece takedown.

Now, if I could only muster the courage to attempt it like cunruhshoot did...
