2 winter projects(just for fun)
« on: April 17, 2016, 03:10:00 PM »
I hope these are OK to post here. If not, please delete.
Anyway, this first figure is my version of an Eastern Woodland Hunter. He stands about 14" tall and is made with paper mache and wire. His bow is black locust, Eastern Woodland style with diamond nock on the bottom and single side nock on top. The arrows are fletched in Eastern Woodland style 2 fletch(real feathers). Feathers in his hair and on the bow tip are real also. Made from the tip of a turkey feather cut to size and shape. His pouch, quiver and neck knife sheath are made from Brain tanned leather. Neck knife is made from rawhide with a sinew wrapped handle. Hawk is paper mache with real wood handle. Here are a few pics...

This newest project is a war bow archer similar to the English archers of the 100 Years War. The first pic is on his kit; sword and scabbard, dagger and sheath, belt pouch, buckler shield, war ax, helmet, 6 arrows and a yew bow. Here are a few pics...

...and here is Thomas Archer(wife's suggestion) in full regalia...

The first one, the Eastern Woodland Hunter will be on the raffle table at the Tenn. Classic. Not sure what I'll do with the War Bow Archer.

Nice work Pat!  I hand painted about 30 pieces (soldiers, horses, cannons, etc.) for a Civil War diorama.  It got too tedious, so I've been on a 20 year break.  Maybe I'll finish it after I retire.  Nice job finishing yours.
It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

Thanks guys. It was fun to do. My wife is an artist and has been doing paper mache figures for a few years now so I thought I'd give it a try. She helped with some aspects but I did all the work. It's fun to think of what you can make with a little chicken wire, tissue paper and some white glue.
Ron, if I had to depend on this face I would have been lost a long time ago.
