takedown
« on: April 20, 2016, 12:48:00 AM »
got a few shots here of the latest bow i have finished. riser is Hairy Oak/ Black wattle with mosaics of silver Ash/ Red box all aussie woods. The Hairy Oak is prone to flaws and is very hard to get a sizable piece to use. Left some knots in for character.Hit right on desired weight of 45# and its 62'' NTN. Boo core with black wattle belly veneers.

Looks great!  That's very cool, unique looking wood.  Nice work
It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

thanks fellas. some one back here just pointed out you can see a bear's head on the first shot on the upper part[ might need a little imagination!] Apart from the bit of wattle in the riser the rest is different pieces of Hairy Oak, some heartwood and the whiter bits are sap wood.

thanks Bue and Charlie.the mosaics are fairly simple.i just shape up two differing types of wood that contrast into the end dimensions I prefer and as long as 2'. Making them about an inch or so high. these are glued together and then cut to width, say 1 3/4'' They are then glued together in alternate woods and then ripped into into thin strips which are then backed with core tuff glass.
