Hello Trad Gang,

I am new Trad Gang and hoping some of the experts in Reflex Deflex laminated bows can help me out. I plan to build 60" bow during the winter months for my daughter who has taken up the sport. She is using a recurve at the moment and I want to make her a bow she can use when she gets older.

My target is 45lbs; legal to hunt within our province, on a 28" draw for a 60 inch reflex deflex bow with limbs non working starting at 1.5".

I am planning to follow this for the laminations but do not know the formula to figure this out; length, width, thickness etc....

Planned:
Cystal Clear ULS glass: .035 x 72" x 1.75 (1) Face
Birdseye Maple lam: .055 x 72" x 1.75 (1) Face
Core-Tuff Glass: .030 Red sanded each side: 36” x 1.75 (2) Center of limbs
Birdseye Maple lam: .055 x 36" x 1.75 (2) Belly
Cystal Clear ULS glass: .035 x 36" x 1.75 (2) Belly

I think you need to go to .040 glass or .050.

you guy's correctly me if I am wrong.

You would be ok with the thinner glass but total stack looks too thin to me. I'll have to check my stack figures though. I personally wouldn't bother with the coretuff glass, I'd use bamboo. Adding these heavier lams to the core does nothing to help imo. Unless you are making a recurve or a longbow with a lot of reflex and even then coretuff isn't woven so has limited lateral stiffness, if I was aiming to get better lateral stiffness I'd use woven carbon.

Brand new design or copied design? If copied you can measure an already built bow. If brand new you will have to SWAG the first stack and go off of it. And maybe post pics of your form shape and get help here.

Yea, I thought it was light. I have a Bodnick BearPaw I am using as a template/guide its a very pronounced design, so does Kenny's, the working limbs seem a bit wider than Kenny's design. The Core Glass is for a little accent touch.

Thanks for the help, I'll post some picts as it moves along. Need to talk with my Father in law and tell him to stop burning Birdseye Maple off his lot and save a good piece for this project.

Mine are about 1 3/8" out to 2" past fades, then taper to 1/2" at nock, if that helps.

There is a stack formula on the plans if you didn't notice it.

i use the .043 uls when used(usually use .040 UL), didn't know there was .035, but on 45# you should be good.

Keep in mind the strip of core tuff will add at least 10 lbs to the bow.
