I think 18 inches is too long, that's going to make your working limb a lot shorter. But you do have a short draw length.
18" is definately long. It will be a working recurve though so that should help a bit. I've tested the design I use to a draw length of nearly 120% of limb length, so for a draw of 26" I figure I need around 23" of working limb. Will be 1.5" wide also which is pretty wide for ipe, and looking for just 45#. Hope to glue up today, but we will see. I will post some pictures when things start coming together.

I almost can't believe I used to shape these riser blocks by hand. What a bear that was. With a bandsaw it's a pleasure in comparison. Speaking of which, I gave away my small benchtop saw to a friend who helped haul the big saw into my basement, which means I've kept my New Years resolution for February. Get rid of one thing every month .... trying to bring some minimalism into my life here.

I have something kind of similar on the go, except I'm making a 3 piece takedown. Riser is red oak that I'll likely do the vinegar-steel wool thing on.
Limbs will be hickory back, maple core, ipe belly with walnut wedges at the riser. I've got the ipe cut and the wedges thinned to nothing. Have to prepare the maple I have and pick up some hickory.

This is a kind of back project. I'm working on my swap bow and have the next build I want to do for myself pretty much figured out. Might be a while before it's done. Hoping to get in the #45 region.

Finished first of marble dipped arrows. The only problem Is that I didn't test if my clearcoat Is compatible with my cresting. It wrinkled slightly, but the good news is, that I only sprayed one od them. Here it is.

Daves bow and his 31" draw. I was scared from the start, so we made it 68" tip to tip.

I was very impressed with how well a 68 inch wooden bow  handled a 31 inch draw. It came out at 66 pounds. He didn't want any more weight than that. And it smokes arrows.  And I was scared the whole time, once he got passed 29 inches on the tree.
 But its fun now.

Heated in some curves on some yellow heart.  1st time heat bending and it was fun.  Weird how you can feel the wood bending in your hand when applying pressure.  Should be an interested build....

Nice Roy.  I always appreciate when someone can build a nice all wood bow with a long draw length.  Mine is 29.5" and it's been a struggle to build bows to say the least.

A bit off topic I guess, but sometimes you must remind yourself to not work too hard in the shop. On my door it says that monday morning should not start until tuesday at 11 o'clock.
Old geezers must take care.
