There are lots of diy thickness sanders out there. Some googlefoo will give you some good ideas and some bad ones, up to you to filter through them and decide how you want to do yours. Don't expect a plan with dimensions and a walk through, just look at how other people have done it and go from there.

I built this one. It has exact dementions if you are into that kind of thing. It is more of a fine art to use this tool more so than a exact one pass and done sort of thing. It will take me like 10 to 15 minutes to get each lam done as it requires several passes on each side to get it all consistent. And more time for tapered. This is with a 1hp motor.
