ASAT 3D Camo?
« on: March 08, 2008, 09:48:00 PM »
I'm in need of some new camo for next year.  I just moved to a new area of the state a few months ago and noticed myself this past season in an array of different terrains and structurs I normally didn't have access to.

With that being said I also noticed my camo wasn't up to par having to try and hunt where I would blend in rather then where the deer may be.

So I did a search on here and have always like the looks of ASAT camo and found many of you do as well.  I saw alot of pics and love how it blends in to just about every enviornment out there!

The one thing i dont see are the 3D leafy suits.  I was curious if anyone has one and how it is?  Noisy? Comfy?  I do enjoy hunting the ground and being that tree stand theft is at an all time high I plan on hunting the ground much much more these days on public land.

I also stumbled apon a post stating ASAT doesn't blend well in pine trees.  I do have alot of pine trees in my area and was curious if anyone has noticed this?  I was thinking of picking up the treebark camo of old days (which they just started producing again) b/c that blends in phenominal with the pine tree bark.  Was just curious if anyone has used ASAT with pine trees.

I'd love to purchase more ASAT to have a wider selection of it but its just so darn pricey!  I figured the 3D suit would probably be my best bet for the entire season and just layer underneath it.

Also do they make a regular jump suit without the 3D stuff?

Thanks in advance for the replies and thanks for reading!

Tom

Asat 3-d is GREAT in a lighter enviroment but not in darker areas like dense fir. pine or green bushes.

Its the most noisy of the 4 different 3-d suits I have but it will help a bit to wash it several times.

It is perfect for any out-west mountain terrain

If you want only ONE suit for ALL terrains, you should go with one of the light grayish 3-d suits

I have a ASAT 3D leafy suit and ASAT fleece. I like the leafy suit but I don't wear it when is not windy, because it is noisey. On a dead calm day, I think a deer could hear you draw.

I've had and used mine for 12 seasons, wouldn't leave home without it, shot 11 deer while wearing it . one as close as 4 feet from my tree, all of them around 12-13 yds, wash it and it gets softer, I carry mine in a back pack and out it on when i get to my stand. Stuff is amazing for keeping you out of sight, I hunt hardwood ridges mostly. its pricey( i paid $110.00) but I love it. good luck

The ASAT leafy suits are fantastic camo!  As mentioned, they do get softer and quieter with washings.
I wear mine as an outside layer.  The only downside is the suit I have doesn't have any pockets, and I tend to carry a lot of stuff in my pockets.  So with the ASAT on I can't get to stuff easily.

I bought an ASAT 3D leafy suit last year and used it for the entire deer season. I believe it worked better than anything else I've tried. I had deer look right at me and then go on about their business. Yes, it is a little noisy at first, as are other 3D leafy suits. They need to be used and washed and then they quit down.  As far as blending in with pine trees, or anything else, I believe the key factor is how effective the camo is at breaking up the human outine. I believe ASAT does that very well. There is a photo of ASAT camo in the pines at this link,

My experiences are very similar to ridge runners...great stuff.

It gets quieter with age and it does help to wash it.  What helps MUCH more is to throw it in the dryer for a while with no heat and a clean pair of tennis shoes.

I bought 3 ASAT Leafy wear suits last year (for me and my kids).  It has to be the best camo I have ever used.  I had more close encounters with whitetail bucks while hunting on the ground last season that I have had in many years put together.  I had a couple of bucks less than 10 yards away and they looked right through me and never got nervous or alert.

If I wear camo, it will be ASAT.  BTW, I bought an ASAT insulated fleece suit from Day One last year for cold weather hunting.  Awesome product also.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!!!

It looks like an amazing suit and I figured it would be a bit stiff and noisy but I can wash it and ruff it up a bit to soften it.

Do they come in only the 3 tone grey/brown/black?  Thats standard correct?

It sounds like ti will work for all the new areas I will be hunting.  Even in the pines I bet I could manage to get it to work.  If not I can pick up a xxl old trebark long sleeve shirt that will work jsut fine and blend perfectly with the pines im often in.
