I've seen some good bows made with crepe myrtle. The first one I saw was a 95# English war bow style bow but I've seen "regular" weight bows too although I've never made one.

If you Google search "crepe myrtle stave bow (no bom)", the top link should be to PA with a self bow made from crepe myrtle. There are more on that site in particular, but from the looks of it, it makes a fine bow.

Good to know. There's a bunch around me too, but I never thought to make a bow out of it. Most seem to be small in diameter and not straight.

Anything 1 1/2" in diameter or bigger should work.

Ken75 made a whole bunch of them. He really liked it. His signature line used to say "crepe myrtle is my yellow wood" or something like that....

We have a ton of it but the grain naturally twists so I figured it was more work that it was worth.
