Easton Axis question
« on: March 09, 2008, 02:41:00 PM »
I got a question about Easton Axis arrows.  I shoot a Bob Lee Hunter recurve 52# @28in.. My draw 29 inches.  What size Axis arrows would be a good start.  Thanks Tripper

I think 400's would work well.

400 or 500's. Add a 100grn brass insert w/125-150 grain head and you are on your way. Awesome setup. Flat shooting and they do a number on whitetails as far as penetration!

If ya get the 400 add a lot of wieght up front I would say the 500s with around 150 to 175 up front would work. Shawn

I have Beman MFX classics 500 spine (basically the same arrow).  I shoot them out of my longbow at 29.5"; the arrow is 30.5" with a 125 grain point.  Bow is 50@28" so I'm shooting around 53 lbs.  They fly great for me, same arrow in my Kota which is [email protected]" and it likes 145 grains up front.
From what I’ve read on other threads, the 400 spine carbons like the Axis’s and Beman MFX’s need a ton of wait up front with bows around 50 lbs at that arrow length and draw weight.  Most are using brass inserts and a heavy head.  When I started working with my Kota I shot it with 125 grain points and they just didn’t look right in the target, switched to 145 grain tips and they flew great.  Which is good since I didn’t want to spend a ton of money trying to find something that worked.

The 500s work with 125-150 up front for me (I shoot the same specs with 28 inch draw) Im going to 400s with 250 up front now to get more weight for elk.

Tripper I shot the 400's last year with the 100 grain brass insert and a 4 bladed eskimo on a long adapter for 270 up front out of a 54# @ 28' bow and had great arrow flight and impressive penetration.  Good luck, Greg

I agree with Shaun. 500's with the aluminum inserts up to 150 grains of point weight.  400's if you want to put the 100 grain brass insert and then work up from there.

It's my arrow of choice, unless I'm feeling nostalgic and shooting woodies.

I shoot the axis 500's out of my 49#@28"Hornes takedown recurve. I use the 200 grain field tips for practice and the 125 grain woodsmans with the 75 grain steel broadhead adapters for hunting. Total weight is around 476 grains. Best arrow flight i"ve ever had. Love those axis shafts.
