Tiller check please.
« on: September 24, 2017, 09:12:00 PM »
Hi everyone I am working on a bamboo backed white maple longbow approx 72" nock to nock. The picture is around 17-18" draw from a full brace.

I feel the tiller is coming along well compared to my other some of my endeavors...

     :dunno:

Any comments on the tiller or even design would be appreciated !

Should see an unbraced pic before I Decide. My first conclusion would be that the fades are bending more than anything.

I agree, An unbraced will help a lot. If it's a flat limb profile, the fades are bending too much. If it's a reflex/deflex, ten it looks fine. The outer half of each limb is flat and the inner half is where all the curve is. But they are at least even.

I was thinking the same thing...  But for a bow that is not glassed, I would think that you want that bend to be spread out a bit more to prevent fretting on the belly...

Agree with above comments about fades bending too much. Make it look like this.

To sound like a broken record again, a tillering Gizmo would help.

Hello again, here is an update on the tiller.

To answer the questions yes it is a straight flatbow.

I notice more set on the top limb from a hinge and I am aiming for a positive tiller,

I took it out shooting today and thought, could this be the reason for increased hand shock ?
