Threw away all my certain brand of dipping and cresting lacquers. (The fumes started to really bother me and make me feel sick)
I cleaned out the dip tubes. Started over with the whole package of True North water based sealers, dips and cresting colors.
Unwrapped two doz Surewood hunter grade tapered shafts. Straightened 6. of them. (Though they didn't take much as they were very straight to start with). The Surewood premiums are darn near perfect. And honestly the hunter grade are just as good with a few grain run outs hear and there.
Opened a package from Three Rivers with fletching supplies. Since I never used the True North products before I started on just 3 of the new Doug Fir shafts. While experimenting with a scrap shaft with the new paints.
I was not expecting the water based to do as good a job as the lacquers. So far I'm impressed. The cresting paints to flow and cover better than the old lacquer. The metallic cresting paints really look good. They lay tight to the shaft and can easily do super fine professional looking lines. I tried dipping the clear of cresting, it works just fine, no running or bleeding at all. So far the learning curve has been easy. I'll see how the glue work and if it has target burn...etc soon enough.
