Fooled with some lams for the poor victim today..... which way to go dirty ash or cherry ???? hmmmmmm  The cherry would look good with a bubinga riser.

Think I have a plan, the dirty ash is gonna be it...... It will be an all American bow, I made some sorta maple awood this morn for cores, but with only 3 glue lines in it by selecting some very flat grain maple and cutting to 1/2" and gluing together to make a 2" blank . I think it will be better than aboo....

And some more dirty ash for the riser ...

With a curly maple I beam

If this is too much info, let me know and I'll do something with it!   :D
Stay sharp, Kenny.

It all looks good.

Tradbowyer, if you have some Myrtle that will work that you might sell we could maybe make a deal.  I get most of my stuff from Kenny and if he had any I think he would have spoken up.

PM me.

The start of the riser. Maple with two walnut accent strips. My current "plan" is for a 3 pc takedown. It won't be fancy but I figured I should focus on function over form at my level.

We'll see.

Good Plan...  I most often opt for function over form...

I just ordered some glass today from Kenny for the victimizer...

So things are looking good...  Maybe glue up the riser this weekend...

Progress already, I like it! You're all ahead of me. I don't see myself getting anywhere until this work travel finally lets up a little in a week or two.

Every year I try to do something different for the swap, something I haven't done before. This time I think I'd like to build a new form and try a D/R hybrid I've been contemplating for some time.

That's alright goob, it don't hurt when Roy bites.

He's right I do keep trying to build a good one. But maybe because my standards are higher than Roybert's.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure Roy has ever shot a bow I made. But the one I shot that he made showered me with splinters and almost put my eye out. Nothing he can say via keyboard can hurt more than that did.

Ok , my maple awood plan didn’t work out. Just tested it against regular maple and it wasn’t as stiff. So ground new lams and tested the tapers against each other, maple still won.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

That's my experience too.  I'm not saying other woods won't work for core lams, but I haven't found anything better.

Just saw Kenny's post

Here’s a question or two that might help everyone ?

I like the dark limbs to lighter riser combo...or light limbs dark riser!

Clear is always beautiful, but hunting bows are great simple.

I need to post pictures, I am thinking of modeling my hybrid after a 50-60's recurve I bought at a antique store. Classic green! Do people like green glass. Personally I think the classic green is pretty awesome!

I should have mentioned split or 3 under tillering too, I shoot split. Normally tiller even to a little positive on my own bows.

 How about you all?

home from beautiful Arkansas tomorrow can't wait to get started on mine. I'll be posting pics asking for input as well.

I shoot 3 under. I have found that tillering even to 1/4" positive is fine for glass bows regardless of shooting style. if it wouldn't be then string walkers would be up a creek.
