I like the dark ones too.  My first thought was to make one for my self with the dark ones.  There's enough of both to make two.  It's a decision quandary. :)

I think the darker ones would look pretty with a bubinga riser.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Gotta allow some cred to Kenny.  He puts some nice combos together.

Got the handle shaped up and sanded to 120 tonight.  My overlay materials also came in but I have to wait until Monday to pick them up once the Post Office opens.

Thanks everyone, the praise from you veterans means a lot to this greenhorn!  I am really pleased with how it's turning out.  I wasn't feeling great about it after the slip issue, but glad I stuck with it instead of starting over.

Worked on a nice-looking 65" hickory-backed walnut.  Was tillering out slowly and made it to 24".  Had just done some light scraping, put it back on the tree for 30 pulls and then a recheck with the tillering block.  Got my marks on it and then, "Tick... Tick... Tick-" I started backing away.  "Tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-BAM!"

Post-mortem shows that my lamination was just fine.  I just think it was too much draw weight for that light wood.  I don't think HD walnut is as good as a stave.  Might do better at 70"+ and something closer to 35-40#.

Time is running out so I'm opting for a design & materials I've gotten to work several times in the past.  I've had fun experimenting.  Now it's time to get something done.

Got some more sanding done on riser. Hope to get some limb tips glued on by the weekend and get some final sanding done. Ready to get this thing ready for some spray.

Alright, I can't remember what may have been put up that I missed during the server change but right now I'm tracking the following:

19 participants
5 bows shipped and received
2 bows ready to ship
Therefore 37% complete.

We have just over 7 weeks until the first deadline (June 1st). It looks like most everyone has been posting updates and status so far. If you haven't written about your current progress in the last couple weeks, please update us. Pictures are preferred obviously!

As for me: the new form was finished a couple of weeks ago and with a little luck I plan to get mine glued up this weekend. I was waiting to finish making my profile jig for the riser since I have to make a couple of these if the design works out.

My 2nd attempt with an experimental maple backing is going pretty good.  Only a couple more inches to go and some shooting in.  Hopefully it holds up, but I have a couple backups to my backup now if it doesn't  :goldtooth:
