Ipe Walnut Boo Tri Lam **updated pics**

I was initially really upset with myself for losing too much weight early on trying to even up the bottom limb for equal limb timing, but I came back the next day and took my time and finished up the tiller, and I'm pretty happy with this little bow.  
Specs:
 Ipe belly, walnut (from Kenny) core, bamboo backing
65" NTN
40 lbs at 28"
Asymmetrical, bottom limb 1" shorter
I guess you would consider this a static recurve?  Maybe someone can help with the correct terminology.  It took very little set and it's a snappy shooter.  I'm pretty sure it's faster than my 47# bow with 1.5" of set.  I still need to do final sanding and finish it.  Maybe this weekend won't be 90% humidity and I can shoot it outside.

I need to thank Roy for all of the ideas I stole from his builds.  From the equal limb timing (although it's a PITA, and I believe bowjunkie forced him to tiler that way), to tiller tree setup, to how he glues his handles, I have borrowed a lot his knowledge.  So thanks man.

Very nice bow Benton. Tiller looks quite good too. I'd have to call that a partially working static recurve. It is opening up some but the last 4" or so are static.

Thanks.  Yeah that seems about right Pat.  6" tip wedge then I added a 4" underlay on the belly to make sure it wasn't moving.

It does seem the edges of the limbs are a bit square? Ya might want to round them a tad.

I think the picture makes it look like the end of the walnut is the corner of the bow, but it isn't.  The ipe is rounded a decent amount.

Yep,  it is a nice looking unit.

 I thought the last 4" (tips) on all bows are supposed to be stiff.   And if they do bend to much you have a whip tillered bow correct..?

Wolf, I think it's pretty accepted knowledge that stiff, thin, less mass tips return faster and make for a faster bow.  The tips really don't store much energy anyway, so what you gain in speed outweighs what you lose by not having that section working.  That's my take on why most guys leave the last 6-7" stiff.  
The tips on this bow are extra stiff to make sure it holds the recurve in the last 5".

Sure. Started at 1.5” at the widest, straight taper to .5” wide tips.   12” riser.  No power lam on this one.  .190” ipe, .190” walnut, .130” bamboo all tapered .002” (give or take on the bamboo, I just get a 1/32” edge on both sides and it will naturally taper)
That will easily give you 50+ lbs but like I said I took too much off early on.

Oh and a tip wedge 6” long .060” thick tapered to a feather edge, and an underlay 4” long and around .040”  thick (I didn’t measure) tapered to a feather edge.

The stiff recurves act like levers so they stress the limbs a little more, storing more energy and I think makes a faster bow than a working recurve.
