A couple of weeks ago I had the good fortune of getting an invite from Terry VanArkel to hunt his hog lease near Clewiston. Great property, lots of hogs, very little pressure, and great company. The first afternoon on stand I had a really big boar with nice teeth come to my feeder. I missed him clean low(I don't want to tell how close he was).
A bunch more came in right at dark but never gave me a good angle.
The next afternoon I hunted a different area.
On the way in they were already hogs at the feeder. I attempted a stalk but the wind swirled and they blew out.
I climbed into the stand and a half hour later the same four hogs came back in, a decent sized dry sow(90lb?)and three small boars. It was dead calm so I didn't dare turn on the video camera which is a lttle loud initially. The sow would not come in range so I picked out a black boar and waited for the right angle. At the shot, the boar dropped in his tracks then regained his footing a ran into some palmettoes. After a short chase I hit him behind the shoulder angling into the vitals. Terry, ever the gentleman called him 65-70 lbs, I would guess 50lb. in any event just right for my grill!
I used my Martin Hatfield 50#, Magnus II broadheads(scary sharp)and Gold-tip arrows with weight tubes.
