Thanks so much everyone. To tell the truth, Tique, now that I think back, I don't know how close she did, or didn't, stay at that point. I think there is a "better-than-good" chance that I was back-peddling a little as I knocked that last, unused arrow.      :D

Congrads Bernie, looks like he'll make the records. That skull cleaned out should be a great memory of the hunt.....

I've got him up on the high ground now, out behind me - hoping the buzzards and ants will do the main work for me - I'm so busy with other "hobbies" right now - LOL. I'll check most every day, Mr. Vic. As you probably noted, he has some serious teefies   ;)

Hey Bernie, I'm just wondering why you shoot so well with a flashlight.  Lots of practice shooting after dark ???  Perhaps your wife should be making you a new shooting badge; one with crossed curly tails rather than crossed rifle or pistols!  Perhaps even crossed tails over a "bandit mask" just to cover the bases.  Good shooting and even better story.  Semper Fi!

My first bow kill ever was a possum. It was getting into our trash which was up on a 55 gal drum. The dogs were going nuts. I pinned him to the ground when I shot him. He didn't flop long.

Man that was a long time ago. LOL

Good going Bernie.

My first with Trad gear was a Racoon that was rabid (they sent it off to Raliegh to be sure). Now, he was really scary when he headed for me - LOL. The story was on here about 5-6 years back.

Thanks for pointing me toward this harrowing tale... brings back memories... yup...them neandrathal critters are hard to kill...tried one once as a kid with a homemade bow and pointed sumac sticks... gruesome experience that ended in a bow being recommissioned as a club as I recall... messy buziness.  :(

I gotta admit, ya had me laughin pretty hard at your descriptions of li'l ole Dainty Rose poppin her teeth at ya and fetchin sticks and lumination! YOu two are a hoot!!! Nothing like a Marine's wife to stir the pot!  :)

Biggie, in Bernie's defense...they're so dumb, they just don't know how to die!

Amazing tough critters... course, anything that has survived as N.America's only marsupial   ...gotta be tough!

See, Bernie...I got yer back!   :knothead:

I shot one that made our garage his territory, used one deadhead.  didn't make it taste any better. This thing, they are pretty tasty all you have to do is get past the smell when your skinning them, bull. Possums taste just awful.

LOL - Like soaking those little Ruddy Ducks and Spoonbills in baking soda - they still taste like fish. Now, I love fish, but I want my Duck to taste like Duck - Mmmmmmm-mmmmmmmmm.

Thanks, Doc (I kinda agreed with Biggie though. Ol' Earnest T. prolly turnin' o'er in he buryin' spot!)) I felt good about the shots but I thought the sucker was never gonna die - except I knew I had pleanty more arras in the house!!!

Mini-Grunt... seems that them arras were miraculously appearing outa the house as though levitated by will... or is that fear & desperation on Rose's part?   :D    :p
