In France, it is neither a game, nor a vermin. Shooting or trapping them is forbiden.And here(I don't know about yours, the squirrels are very timid. It would be very difficult to approach at a good distance.

He was on the ground and not too far away, about 10yds after he scurried down a tree. They are very hard to hunt but thats most of the fun.   :D
 Squirrels are awesome to eat if you cook them right. Battered and deep fried is my favorite.
Thats too bad you can't hunt them there, squirrels re-produce very quickly. Can you form a committee to try and change the laws?

In western Europe, it is difficult to maintain all the existing sorts of hunting and hunting games.I will be surprised to see during next years new games admitted. "Friends" of the nature (hard ecologists and ignoramus)are strongers, more numerous, and best lobbyers than hunters.

And bow hunters are often considered here as poachers by firearm hunters (too silent for them).

 Any educated biologist or ecologist should know that hunting brings balance to the overall population. The best thing to do is get your hands on as much scientific data about hunting and it's positive effects and take it to the people in charge of your regulations.  That...or move over here!!!
