What are you putting your stone points on?
« on: March 12, 2008, 08:06:00 PM »
I talked to local guy that is one of the best knappers out there, and he said he will make me some hunting points. Do you folks that hunt with them put them on cedar shafts or something else, he said he would teach me how to haft them.
Proverbs 12:27
The lazy do not roast any game,
but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.

I use ash.
Here are some just fitted.

Lining up on a knife point, I spin them to get them aligned. (See hi-tech spinner jig above.)

I use red osier.

Top is raw shoots bundled for drying.

Next is bark stripped and straightened, bundled for more drying.

Right under is the end result.

I cut these shoots this winter.  Completed arrow is from one of last years shoots.

Jim, If you want you can bring them up hear some time and I'll help you get them hafted. I've even saved some sinew you can use.

Wow those are great points. I'd really like to learn how to knap one of these days. I heard the bottom of bottles is an inexpensive and good place to start, is this correct? Can points made from glass like this be used to hunt?

Killdeer those are just beautiful!

Thanks all for the pics.

They are all great! Along with the sinew what kind of glue/epoxy/??? do you use to attach them to the shaft?

A pitch/charcoal/bees wax mixture works well.
I use epoxy when hunting the coast range.  It can be very wet durring hunting season.

Does anyone know of a reliable source to get some knapped heads??

I have some, that I've been luck enough to come accross, but would really like to be able to try to get about another 1/2 dozen..............

Please PM if you'd rather not discuss since it seems I may be hijacking this thread.........

BTW all,beautiful heads and arrows.
