First Deer of the Year!!!!
« on: October 09, 2011, 09:17:00 PM »
Well, I got to go down to the lease this week (finally!) and spent 4 days there. I saw a lot of deer. They are in good shape considering the drought. The bucks that I saw were all crummy but there is still a lot of season to go. I did manage to shoot a nice 109lb doe on Friday afternoon. As usual, I shot this doe with my Sarrels Blueridge longbow 50#@29.5", Gold Tip 55/75 arrows, and 150gr German Kinetic Silverflame XL broadheads. Here are the pics:

See y'all later,

Bisch

If low 90's for a high is warm to you, then it is still warm in Tx. That is normal for us in October in that part of the state. Heck, I can wear a short sleeve shirt more days than not in December down here.

I had ZERO blood trail and was seriously worried I was not going to recover her. The shot was an extreme down shot (10yds from a 25foot high treestand). I hit her a little higher than I wanted and the arrow took out both lungs and ended up in the offside shoulder with no exit wound. Luckily it was very early and i had a lot of daylight left. I found the back half of the arrow about 50yds out and still no blood on the ground or brush. I kind of knew which directionshe was headed and stated circle pattern searches and found her about another 60yds out. She may have been lost in the dark. I feel very lucky on this one.

Bob, We have a year-around (usually) creek that goes through our property. Along the creek there is elms and hackberrys and cottonwood trees. You go more than about 75yds off the creek and you are back into the mesquite brush and ground blind hunting.

Congratulations on your deer!  Thanks for sharing your picture and story.  Those shots that don't leave much blood can be tough!
