Florida hog down by drewsbow
« on: April 09, 2012, 11:34:00 AM »
Drew Reniff took a nice sow at my Florida property.
It took some blood trailing and bushwacking but we (actually Drew and his dad Don)found her early the next morning.

I sat a stand Friday afternoon wanting to shoot a raccoon and saw 31 hogs instead.Jim at True South Adventures

I believe Drew was using a Mojostick, low 40#s,
800 grain arrow, VPA 3 blade head, and he can really shoot it!

Thanks alot guys and most of all thanks to Jim for having us down . Jim is a great guy and host , we had a good hunt with some extra shootin along the way . We got to bowfish for gar as well , what a great time .
I got to hunt the double stand and was visited by some sweet turkeys first thing. I saw 10 hogs that night and uummmm kinda missed a smaller one at about 6 yds but no harm done with a clean miss.
The next day we set in the morning with no action but a nice morning none the less . After some bowfishing Jim and I went to put some coon gaurds on the feeders to keep the skweeeerrrllls off as I saw a dozen at the feeder and they was all plenty fat . Having got that done it was back to the hotel for a nap and back out to hunt.
I sat the double again and had lots of hogs in with 15 total by the end of the night. The first group was 12 with a nice black dry sow in the bunch , I decided to take her given the chance . I had put down some corn along with some grapefruit I had picked and put down. The hogs came in after the feeder went off and it was on. I waited till I had a nice broadside shot at again about 6 yds and let fly with an arrow. The hit was less than steller being too far back but height was good . I think the bow string caught the saftey harness strap , not to make excuses but thats my story and i'm sticking to it.
After we waited two hours we started the search with little blood to go on. We tracked for an hour and a half and called it till morning. The next morning with a short sit till daylight we started again. We went into the thickest brush you can imagine at which point I was thinking no way we are finding this hog.
We moved through and bumped some hogs out , let me tell ya it was thick in there and there is no dought as to why the hogs bed in it. After looking for about twenty five minutes I looked up and there she lay next to a wallow . After the appropriate respects where paid we dragged her out for pics. The meat was still nice and cool and quartered her up and got her in the cooler . We had just enough time to hit the hotel and shower before getting on the road.
Once again a big thanks to Jim for having us down and if anyone is looking for a good afordable hog hunt give him a shout. Drew
