It's Whats For Sunday Dinner(LOL)
« on: October 28, 2012, 09:41:00 AM »
My Maryland season have gotten off to a fairly slow start. Usually by this time, I would have 3-4 deer already down to fill my freezer. But to date for this season I am at 2 Groundhogs, 2 anterless deer and this recent Raccoon. I have passed up a number of smaller antlered bucks and button bucks, but I am not complaining. This is my first time cooking and eating a Raccoon. So before Sandy(the storm) hit us hard next week, I decide to have the Coon for Sunday dinner after Church. I hope the rest of you fellows are having a pretty good season so far, but it is not over yet. Sorry for the lest than clear pic of me and the Coon. The other pics are of the Coon cooking in olive oil with onions and green peppers and then transfered to the slow cooker with cream of mushroom soup and some potatoes and mixed vegetables and a packet of Lipton onion soup mix. Shoot Straight and Good Hunting.

Well fellows thanks for the kind words. I just finished eating some over egg noodles, and I will say it is quite tasty. I plan to have some more for lunch tomorrow. The bow I am shooting is a 62" Dale Stahl takedown Longbow. It is 61Lbs at my 31" draw . I took the Coon with a Zwickey Black Diamond Delta 4 blade.

Good job looks like a great meal - did you get the glands off that raccoon - a buddy of mine swears by it and it makes sense. I trapped coons when I was a kid up north - they were huge - but down here raccoon's are running around all over - I had one over me cutting acorns last week just like a squirrel. I love braised meals especially cooked in a dutch oven.

Tony, i’ll say your coon dinner looks a lot more edible then what i’ve had in the past.  My Mom tried one that my dad had killed, needless to say she didn’t get it right    "[dntthnk]"   it stunk up the whole house with a very musky smell and no one could stomach it.  My second attempt was more recent when a lady who use to work at my office building brought me some, she had cooked it like a pot roast, I waited till I got it home to try it, but when reheating it it had that same musky smell and I could not even get it to my mouth without a gag reflex    :p  .  Yours preparation looks like something I might could try.
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.
