Bowfishing
« on: March 04, 2013, 11:14:00 PM »
I just spent a week up the north coast of WA bowfishing for sharks, rays and mullet. I was lucky enough to shoot all three on the first day. It would have to be one of the funniest hunts I've been on spending it with a dozen other people from my club Western Plaines Archers.

First up was a small leopard ray this little bloke had some fire about him when I had him about 6 feet away he went into attack mode coming at me with his tail in the air, after a bit of high stepping, screaming and side stepping I walked him to shore.
We removed the barbs and arrow got some pics and I released him.

Second was a 118cm reef shark that I "called" into 2 meters one arrow to the head we never put up much struggle and I soon landed her.
We ate her that night in a curry that we were all regretting the next day. She measured a bit over 17dp.

Lastly was the smallest mullet in the ocean and the best shot I made for trip, I got him through the gills at 4 meters.

The amount of wildlife just blew me away seeing dolphins, turtles, hundreds of sharks and all sorts of rays. I can't wait for next year to do it all again!

Dangit, Luke! Now I got to come back there for another adventure. Rays and sharks sounds like fun. I hope all is well on your side of the pond.

That is pretty cool.  Whats the large spool?  Is that the extra line?

Man these pictures fire me up and get me wanting to be out there flinging arrows. I just converted my guide boat to all LED lighting so we will be very quietly slamming the fishys this year.

Thanks for posting the great pictures.
