Surewood Shafts, AMG feathers and more new stuff!
« on: March 14, 2008, 02:32:00 PM »
Howdy Trad Gangers,

We're pleased to let you know we now have Surewood Shafts at Braveheart Archery.  We looked long and hard at available shafting before we added these, and I'm convinced these are as good as it gets!         I could say much more about Surewoods but I'll spare you, let it suffice to say we are excited about these shafts and if you appreciate top quality shafting you will be too.

A.M.G. Feathers - The word is out on these high quality, valued priced feathers and we're thrilled to have them.  With Braveheart's friendly shipping charges, you can actually put a couple dozen feathers in your mailbox for just $1.99 shipping.     :D

We've added more good stuff too, you can see it all here:

Thanks to all you Trad Gangers, it has been your continued support that has made this possible, we appreciate it!   :clapper:

AMG does sell full length feathers but we're not stocking them yet.

Can't believe I forgot to mention, we also have some of Trad Gang's own Onestringer arrow wraps as well!

      I can vouch for the Surewoods. Just got some in to try. They arrived straight, round, and just plain purdy. They are cut VERY straight...no runoff. Top droor quality fir.

Thanks Steve, it's guys like you that make this possible.   :D

Tilbilly I agree, the Surewoods are the real deal.  There is absolutely no comparison between a Surewood Shaft and shafts that are "run from boards that look good".

I have 3 questions about the Surewood shafts. Do you sell a tappered version? Will there be 75-80 from time to time? What are the avg weight of these shafts.

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.

I have read that copy before regarding the rays in a tree's trunk. Made sense to me, all you need do is look at the radial checks in a cut log as it dries. I too would be interested in the weight, and tapered shafts.

I just got some AMG feathers from Joe Skipp, and am very impressed with the grind on the bases. I see hundreds of them in my future!   :)   That is a very nice, easy to navigate site there at Braveheart. Good job, Tim.

Thanks for the interest and compliment.   :D    The Surewoods are heavier than cedar and MUCH stronger, of course both cedar and the DF varies but on average I believe it would be reasonable to expect about 50 grains extra weight from the DF.  If you need a certain weight range check with us and we'll try to get you where you want to be.  Across the spread of spines we have, uncut shafts run about 350 to 450 grains to give you an idea.

No tapered shafts yet, sorry.

As far as spines we are stocking 40-70 but much higher spines can be ordered in, we can get Surewoods in spines well over 100#!   :scared:   I hope in the future we'll be able to have even more spines in stock all the time.

I personally believe the Surewood DF is stronger than other DF, I can't prove it but it's my opinion after having used them for some time now, again it's the attention to detail that makes for a stronger shaft.  I've been shooting the same dozen for about 9 months and one hunting season.  The only shaft I've retired I sliced with a broadhead.  I've yet to break one and that includes a lot of boo-boos and slapping one off a fleeing whitetail (long story, I don't shoot at running deer!).  Don't compare these with other DF that's simply run off from boards.  They're not the same.

Hope this helps, Tim

My Surewoods spine 40-42# for a 50@28" selfbow.
They are around 400 grains raw. Hard to get that from cedar of same spine.

Should be easy to get 450 grains raw from  55-60# shaft.

Heard from Doug they have spines up to 130#   :scared:

I have a bunch 430-450+ that spine 55-60.  Good shafts, I like them.  I've broken cedar, Sitka spruce, but not one of these.  Douglas fir takes a great stain.

Excellent idea.  With the extra weight of the surewoods over POC, a surewood shaft with a slightly lower static spine than on my POC's might be optimal.

Sounds like the test kits might be just the ticket for some of you, I'll have to look into that.
